Cosmetic Bonding and Enamel Reshaping

There are many ways to perfect chips, stains, or other imperfections in your smile that may make you self conscious. At Modern Dental Care in Las Vegas, we offer cosmetic bonding and enamel reshaping as an alternative to cosmetic veneers or Lumineers®. Learn more about these cosmetic procedures below.
Cosmetic Bonding
Cosmetic bonding involves applying composite resin material to teeth to help conceal and repair cosmetic flaws like chips, cracks, imperfections, discoloration, small gaps, or misshapen teeth. Dr. Edington will select the perfect shade of bonding material so that it matches the natural color of your surrounding teeth.
Cosmetic bonding is an alternative to cosmetic veneers, and is often less expensive. Cosmetic bonding yields instant results, so you can leave Modern Dental Care in Las Vegas with the smile you deserve. Results of cosmetic bonding can last for years with proper hygiene and regular dentist visits.
Good candidates for cosmetic bonding are patients who are in good health and who only have minor cosmetic imperfections. More extensive cosmetic dental problems may require porcelain veneers. Any existing cavities should be fixed before a tooth undergoes any cosmetic procedure.
Enamel Reshaping
Enamel reshaping is the process of gently and carefully removing a small portion of outer tooth enamel to achieve the desired shape. Enamel reshaping can remove the uneven texture of teeth and even give the illusion that your teeth are straight without braces or Invisalign. Typically, enamel reshaping does not require anesthesia, and patients can leave our Las Vegas dental office seeing overall improvements to their smiles.
While enamel reshaping is a very conservative dental procedure, it still does involve removing layers of the tooth’s enamel. Enamel cannot be replaced; however, it is still a good option for remaking your smile. Dr. Edington will discuss whether or not you are a good candidate for enamel reshaping.
Some patients do have additional sensitivity after enamel reshaping, although many have little to no sensitivity after undergoing this cosmetic procedure. After one layer of enamel is removed, the layer underneath will adapt and function as the new outer layer, reducing the chance of sensitivity.
